Our lab employs experimental psychology and brain science to solve problems in design, kansei, and consumer behavior. Our approach can be characterized by quantitative and objective assessments of user behavior and emotion, using various data from eye-trackers, electromyograms, electrocardiograms, functional near-infrared spectroscopic (fNIRS) sensors, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scanners. Our mission is not only to evaluate current designs, but also to discover hidden problems, provide solutions, and create new designs for the future.

Main Research Topics

Product assessment based on behavioral and physiological indices

Information design to improve information literacy in consumers

Psychological and brain-science assessments of comfort and discomfort induced by product patterns and images

Identification of stimuli triggering sensitive responses

Elucidation of brain mechanisms associated with sensitivity

Coexistence of highly sensitive persons and non-highly sensitive persons

Safety and security and consumer behavior
