Usually, I create works with clay, being inspired by Japanese word play. I have a strong interest in so-called “Touch Art” since this artistic genre facilitates conversation among the audience, even if they are strangers. Touch Art is a type of artwork that requires people’s touch and is usually aimed at the blind. However, I believe that touching artwork creates a sense of bonding between the audience and artwork, regardless of disabilities. The surprises or findings occur in the minds of the audience when they hold artwork in their hands. These experiences help the audience understand how it works and become familiar with it. However, since it is now difficult to allow audiences to actively touch artwork, I have recently been interested in creating video installments that explain my three-dimensional works. As filming requires special skills, using video as an artistic medium will be challenging for me.
