I studied Fine Art sculpture at Central Saint Martins and completed my Masters in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art. I have a penchant for taxidermy, especially manipulating and reassembling bird forms into ‘new’ bodies and objects–calling on the viewer’s ability to recognise and empathise with potential new identities. I subvert traditional taxidermy using abstract forms to ensure that my creations are curious, subtle, and complex. The finished work has a deliberate ‘otherness’, cultivated to ensure that my pieces stand apart from normal experiences of the world. I am increasingly interested in philosophers Deleuze and Guattaris’s notion of ‘becoming-animal’ as a means of escape, a way of unthinking identity and subjectivity where the human and the animal enter into a functional alliance.
