Visit from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris University

Date of Visit: Wednesday, February 13–Thursday, February 21

Details of the Visit: As an invitee of the CAMPUS ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM 2019 in Tsukuba (CAIR), Professor Philippe Bennequin of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris university and one student as a residence participant visited our university. Having completed the CAIR program work by the previous day, on Wednesday 20, the group to attend the main open discussion in the afternoon watched and tried g-ball and wheel gymnastics at the Gymnastics Club, watched rehearsals at the Dance Club, and visited the Empowerment Studio as part of the university tour with the other residence participants. It was an invaluable experience for them, as they were able to experience sports out of the ordinary and visit cutting-edge research facilities.

・All classes will be conducted in Chinese.

Announcement from the NTUA

Dear partners,

 

Greetings from National Taiwan University of Arts.

We are now opening for your recommendation of exchange students for academic year 2019/2020.

 

Please take note that the application time of each semester are different:

Autumn term in 2019 : From March 1st to April 15th.

Spring term in 2020 : From September 15th to October 30th.

 

We can accept 2 recommended students from your school as the maximum each term.

The right to make the final decision of whether the student is admitted as an exchange student or not is of the departments.

 

Please help students to finish the application form and the required documents from the department he/she tends to apply, then send us the electrical files before the deadline.

If there is a portfolio with special design, DVD/CD disks or other formats, please mail the hard copy of the portfolio to us. If no, students are required electrical files only.

 

In the reason that our courses are all taught in Chinese, we still suggest students who is not native speaker or has good proficiency of Chinese to have a certain level of Chinese ability.

 

The semester dates of academic year 2019/2020 is followed: (The actual dates would be determined around June 2019)

Details of the Visit:

  • In the morning, the head of the center and the two lecturers made a courtesy visit to the head of Art and Design. The students visited the central library and learned about the building structures and state of seismic retrofitting. In the afternoon, the group attended a lecture by Professor Uekita, and visited the casting and sculpture room, atelier, and Art and Physical Education Library. This was a great opportunity for the group to deeply consider what it means to be an architect, as they attended lectures on modernist architecture of prominent Japanese architects, inspected actual buildings, and observed earthquake resistant construction taking place.

The School of Art and Design and Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Sciences Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Art and Design, as well as Kansei, Behavioral, and Brain Sciences; World Heritage Studies; and World Cultural Heritage Studies are collectively accepting applications from their students (college students only for the University of Barcelona) for study abroad programs (up to one year) at the faculty level for the inter-university exchange partner schools shown below.

Interested students can obtain application documents from the Art and Physical Education Area Academic Service Office Area Commons. You must attend an application interview with the liaison faculty member of the university abroad and apply by the due date once you have verified the requirements of your area of research, the specific period you will be on exchange, and your application eligibility in terms of linguistic ability (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.). When preparing your application, please notify your class homeroom teacher or supervisor. Interviews will be conducted by mid-January.

2018–2019 Art and Design study abroad orientation / Exchange student testimonial presentations

The 2018–2019 Art and Design study abroad orientation and exchange student testimonial presentations were held on Wednesday, October 31 at Art 6A208. This academic year, with 22 participants, the number of students participating far exceeded that of last year, indicating the high level of students’ interest in study abroad programs.
The orientation first covered the course of events regarding the study abroad program in Art and Design and details on scholarships. Following this, students who had previously studied abroad at one of the international exchange partner universities spoke about the procedures when preparing for exchange, shared photos from their time abroad, and spoke about their experiences such as their day-to-day lives and classes at universities overseas. At the conclusion of the event, time was allocated for individual consultations, which enabled students interested in the study abroad program to proactively ask the presenters questions.

Kansei Design Workshop 2018 “Kansei in Future Cities (Future town planning integrating technology and Kansei)”

The University of Tsukuba x Tsinghua University Kansei design workshop 2018 “Kansei in Future Cities (Future town planning integrating technology and Kansei)” was held over five days from September 3 to September 7 (Hosted by: Art and Design Associate Professor SeungHee Lee and Tsinghua University Professor Zhiyong Fu).
An opening session was held on September 3, at which the Mayor of Tsukuba City, Tatsuo Igarashi, spoke about the charms of Tsukuba city and its future visions. His talk prompted many questions and comments from participating students. In addition, the head of Art and Design Kei Ohta gave an address on behalf of the school, during which he expressed his hopes of weaving a new cloth in terms of town planning, with Tsinghua University as the warp and University of Tsukuba as the woof.
At the workshop, students of the University of Tsukuba and Tsinghua University formed teams and compiled proposals on town planning in Tsukuba city based on Kansei design through group discussions and field work. On the final day, the students conducted their presentations.

There is usually no set month for applications, as the application deadlines are at the end of the month and interviews are conducted during the following month. However, we anticipate a large number of applicants for the abovementioned universities; thus, applications are being accepted up until the end of July for February 2019 student exchanges to ensure a fair screening process. For student exchanges commencing in Fall 2019, applications are scheduled to open around December.
