建築群とが明確な幾何学的配置のもとに構成された俯瞰透視図に呼応する建物の図面類と、単独に描かれた多数の建築物(単純化された幾何学によって構成された空間タイポロジーとも呼べるそれらの建築には､｢教会｣、「取引所」、｢公共浴場｣、「オイケマ(享楽の館)」、｢田園の家｣等の名前が付けられている)の図面群とで、「ショーの都市」が綴られる。ただし、これらふたつの図面群との間に空間的な対応関係はなく、｢ショーの都市｣はその本のページを繰ることで｢仮想体験｣される仕掛けの都市である。想像の中で緩やかに繋がる都市。
想像のなかのこの都市は､その四半世紀前、1779年にルドゥーが完成させた､フランス東部のブザンソン近郊に位置する《アルケ･スナンの王立製塩所》が､ひとつの｢出発点｣であった。しかし､その10年後に起きたフランス革命という大変革によって､建築的実務から遠ざけられた｢王室建築家｣ルドゥーが綴ったのが､仮想都市｢ショー｣のプロジェクトである。しかし､半円形の構成の《アルケ･スナンの王立製塩所》と､それを鏡像のように反転させた円形の《ショーの理想都市》という虚構都市との関係は､作品集『芸術､風俗､法制との関係の下に考察された建築』の中では､｢アルケ･スナン｣は《ショーの理想都市》の構想を｢出発点｣とした実現化として位置付けられて､時間を反転させた文脈の変更が仕掛けられている(その詳細については本書カタログ部分の3-2の項を参照)。

From a little remembered architectural scheme emerged the “Ideal City of Chaux" by one of the ‘visionary' eighteenth-century French designers， Claude-Nicolas Ledoux. Within living memory, Ledoux's brilliant yet long concealed vision has touched contemporary production to create a major thoroughfare of influence.
The city at Chaux was first illustrated in a compilation of work whose first of two volumes appeared in 1804， just two years before the architect's death -L'Architecture consideree sous le rapport de l'art, des moeurs et de la legislation. Chaux was the name given to a town forming a kind of se1f-sufficient commune with salt extraction at its economic core. The initial volume of Ledoux's great album deals virtually in its entirety with this imaginary city assumed to have won the approval of Louis XV， but in fact now believed to be the product of Ledoux's final fifteen years of work.
