The Joso team is participating in the University of Tsukuba Festival (Soho Festival) that will take place from Saturday October 6th through Monday October 8th. The Joso team has been joining forces with the Ishigenishi Junior High School in Joso City, one of the institutions that had to be rebuilt following the disaster. The team will present the results of their activities. The students are very busy preparing with the approach of tomorrow’s presentation.

Vision Formulation : Assignment – Class Presentation
During the summer holidays, 7 teams have been formed to conduct research in various areas as an exercise related to the Vision Formulation.
Today the groups presented the research results to their classmates. Each team utilized a different approach to the reconstruction, which gave rise to a rich and compelling discourse among the students. We aspire to continue working towards the realization of each of these plans. (Kataoka)

A Creative Reconstruction: Vision Formulation, 4th session
For the 4th session of A Creative Reconstruction: Vision Formulation we were honored to welcome Pr. Kunihiro Ando (University of Tsukuba, Art department). In a lecture entitled “The Itakura Temporary Housing & Disaster Restoration Project” he spoke about local contractors and their contributions to reconstruction efforts following the cataclysmic event and discussed the potential of temporary housing projects to be implemented from now on.
Culture & Social Innovation / Tokyo Conference
The Culture & Social Innovation / Tokyo Conference is organized by the city of Tokyo, the Tokyo Culture Creation Project office (Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History & Culture), the Japan Foundation and the University of Tsukuba. Mr. Kenji Kubota, sub-leader of this project board, will participate as moderator for the first section of this program called “Disaster Recuperation through Cultural and Artistic Projects – Case Studies and Sustainable Support Systems.”
This symposium will serve as an off-campus seminar for the Vision Formulation series. Students of the University of Tsukuba should attend the Culture & Social Innovation / Tokyo Conference on October 19th & 20th. A special reception desk will be set for them.

The Itako Team’s Visit to Hinode Junior High School

The goal of this visit to Hinode Junior High School is to plan and promote the School Festival Ornament Project. The gymnasium is to be the main event hall of the festival; the bazaar, food corner and flow paths (such as hallways and hatches) are to be taken into consideration as well. The pupils’ association and art department gathered in the meeting room after school to hear our proposals and offer their input regarding the festival’s overall objective. Hereafter, we will exchange ideas and mobilize to put a definitive plan into action.
In order to support the recovery, it is especially necessary to understand and consider the feelings of the afflicted persons of the area. Presently, we must also recognize that limitations exist as far as time and distance are concerned. We hope that this project will be the first step in building new relationships with local residents, including the teachers, their pupils as well as the parental guardians. (Kamiura)

会津若松市内の城北仮設住宅。筑波大学のOBで、喜多方市で活動されている金親さんと一緒に伺う。金親さんは、筑波大学の安藤先生とともに仮設住宅の設計に関わった。地域の木材を使用した木造建築は、仮設住宅としての任務が終わった後も移築して使用することができる。金親さんのご紹介から、城北仮設住宅でお話をうかがう機会を得た。（宮原）

東山温泉にある旅館原滝。東山温泉では、原発事故発生後に最高時で2,242人の被災者を受け入れた。避難の始まった当日から、退去に至るまでの対応や被災者の生活について、総支配人の平賀さんより詳細なお話を聞くことができた。（宮原）
