About

A menu system for determining a user’s desired product, based on sorting online reviews

We wanted to get users to find new products by sorting through online reviews of those products, having hidden information about the products’ “appearances,” such as their names and packaging. Based on those results, the system guesses what product the user really wants, and recommends that product to the user. For this prototype, we chose soft drinks as our target, using actual online reviews published on Rakuten Ichiba. By removing information about products’ appearance, we remove the user’s preconceptions about those products, creating a system for making new menu recommendations, helping users to overcome their pre-existing dislikes of products they may not have tried yet.
