Art History
This division will, based on the professional education of History of Art that students experience while attending the School of the University of Tsukuba or other faculties such as the faculty of literature of other universities, guide them in further professional, theoretical research. The division aims to foster researchers who have a broad range of knowledge concerning their fields of expertise, who proceed with higher developed research, as well as becoming highly skilled professionals capable of leveraging academic knowledge and research methods. Our education programs focus on the history of Japanese art and the history of Western art.
Since 1983, the Division of History of Art has published “Geiso,” an annual research journal, which primarily presents the research results of graduate students. The journal, serving as a forum to deepen and develop research, presents papers regarding a variety of arts ranging from ancient to modern, both in the East and the West, . Since 2006, the journal has implemented a peer-review process, further developing as an academic journal.
After completing the programs, students may become curatorial staff of museums/art museums, or go to the doctoral programs (second semester).
