The Western Painting department aims to nurture Western painters and experts in the field of Western painting who can play leading roles in society in the future by building on the specialized education they have received at our school or at other universities through more specialized research.
The curriculum includes specialized subjects designed to deepen students' sensibilities, cultivate their highly creative expressive abilities, and help them establish their own expressions as Western-style painters.

Completion research
Students will work on creating artwork and writing a research report. The results will serve as the foundation for their artistic activities after graduation.
Additionally, for those who wish to proceed to a doctoral program, the graduation research can be considered a form of reflection and practice that will enable them to explore and select a research topic for after they proceed to the doctoral program.
MC Exhibition
The MC Exhibition is an exhibition of Western-style paintings, Japanese paintings, and prints by students enrolled in the Graduate School of the University of Tsukuba.
The purpose of this program is to present works that are the result of learning and research in the offered course subjects of "Western Painting," "Special Western Painting," "Japanese Painting," "Special Japanese Painting," "Printmaking," and "Special Printmaking," and to receive external recognition.
In addition, as part of the "Special Research and Production Presentation Seminar I and II," participants will take an active role in the publicity, display, and management of an exhibition, learning how to present their works in order to develop their future creative endeavors.
In addition, a critique of the works will be held at the venue by all the faculty members involved, and the content and methods of instruction will be made public.

Career path for graduates
Graduates of the Western Film course continue their creative research even after graduation and are very active in presenting their work.
They are active as painters, illustrators, university teachers, high school teachers, civil servants, and in general companies related to painting, and some continue their creative activities overseas.
