The second day's event at T+ Arena is "Shocking! Performance Sound Match"!!
In this competition, which involves competing for impact using physical gestures and the sounds that result from them, alumni Saito Naotake, known as Habanero-kun, and Shiro Toshihiko, known as Gum Gazal Joe, face off against each other.

Date: October 2008, 10
Venue: In front of Tsukuba University Art Gallery T+
(University of Tsukuba, School of Art and Design, Building A, 2nd floor, Room 6A212)
Organizer: University of Tsukuba Art Gallery T+

Opponent

Naotake Saito (Graduate of Visual Communication Design majoring in Design)
Toshihiko Shiro (Graduate of the Department of Construction and Comprehensive Art and Design)

When Habanero-kun, clad from head to toe in hard black jackets and pants, and Joe-san, with his face painted white and covered in duct tape, stepped into the ring, a huge crowd gathered in front of the gallery! The performances of the two of them ranged from those that got the audience involved to those that made us nervous just watching, and we couldn't help but be impressed by the depth of their imagination and expressiveness.

"Body Painting" Titas Planning, October 2008, 10

The second day's event at T+ Arena was body painting. Volunteer second-year students performed using white T-shirts as canvases.

Date: October 2008, 10
Venue: In front of Tsukuba University Art Gallery T+
(University of Tsukuba, School of Art and Design, Building A, 2nd floor, Room 6A212)
Organizer: University of Tsukuba Art Gallery T+

performer

Kaoru Iwasaki (2nd year Western painting major)
Erina Okumura (2st year, Composition Major)
Runa Oyamada (2nd year Western Painting major)
Arata Naoko (2nd year Western painting major)
Fuka Haraguchi (2nd year Western painting major)
Haruka Muto (2nd year Western painting major)
Misa Yuzawa (2nd year Western Painting major)

The second-year students majoring in Western painting and composition performed a body painting with a Swimmy theme. The white T-shirts they were wearing were their canvas. The performance, which used dance and paint to accompany Muto's narration and music, was truly fantastical. Before you knew it, the paint had overflowed from their T-shirts, and their entire bodies had become canvases. There were many moments when the venue and the ring became one, such as when they handed brushes to boys in the audience and had them paint directly on their faces. It was an impactful project in which the ring of the T+ Arena was the only stage for the performance.

Date: October 2008, 10
Venue: In front of Tsukuba University Art Gallery T+
(University of Tsukuba, School of Art and Design, Building A, 2nd floor, Room 6A212)
Organizer: University of Tsukuba Art Gallery T+

Opponent

Yasumi Ogimi (2nd year calligraphy major)
Ayaka Baba (2nd year calligraphy major)

Passersby were fascinated by the two artists' speedy brush strokes and the colorful character shapes that were created one after another based on the three abstract themes of "Futari," "Dream," and "Art." Seeing the works in which not only the font but also the size and arrangement of the characters were thoroughly calculated, it was a competition that made them strongly aware of the artistic nature of calligraphy.

Comments from spectators

・You write while sitting properly.
・I think I understand why calligraphy is included in the Faculty of Arts.
・Both of them are good and cool.
・It was great to be able to see so many different forms of calligraphy.
・Writing calligraphy under the blue sky is also a nice experience.

Interviews with the contestants
Since I entered university, I have been competing with cute drawings. I want you to check out my illustration blog, Konaka Room. This time, I loved the tension of drawing in front of people and the one-shot nature of it. (Konaka Daichi)

Until the age of 12, she believed she was born in Tokyo, but in fact she was born in Ishikawa Prefecture. She learned about society by reading Golgo 13, and went on to study at Tsukuba University. When she was fighting in the T+ Arena, she felt like she was living alone in society, and it was exciting. (Hikari Muranaka)
