T+review

I saw a black microphone standing in a familiar gallery. I approached and looked inside and found five small white boards lined up in front of the microphone. Following the instructions, I sprinkled some of the white sand on some of the boards and tried speaking into the microphone. When I blew in the sound, it was converted into several musical scales in order and transmitted to the boards, which vibrated and caused the sand to move, drawing irregular patterns like waves and sliding down. An inorganic sound filled the small gallery and reverberated. Eventually it stopped ringing, and only a pleasant reverberation remained in my ears. It reminded me of the sound of the sea, and naturally reminded me of the past.
The word "denpa" (propagation), which is also part of the title of this exhibition, means that something is transmitted and spreads, and that waves spread through a medium. It is often read as "denpan" as a common reading. It seems that an alternative reading for this reading is "denpa," but the boundary between these two is very vague.
But here we realize that even in the society that surrounds us, there are almost no clear boundaries. It is impossible to tell what lies ahead, and we often don't know if the ball we hit will come back, let alone whether it will hit a wall. But what will certainly come back to us here are the questions and thoughts we have about ourselves. As we age and gain experience, these questions we asked ourselves long ago sometimes come back to us in unexpected ways. This process is very similar to the current exhibition. (Yamazaki Reika)
