It's a picture, branches, branches, a picture, a picture of branches.

I wanted to see what would happen if I painted with branches instead of using a pre-made canvas.

T+review

It's a picture. A picture made of tree branches.
When you notice the play on the title of the exhibition, you will surely chuckle. The works lined up in the gallery are made by combining many tree branches. They are made up of two types: artificially colored branches and branches made of natural bark.
As the artist says, "I tried to see what would happen if I painted with branches instead of using a ready-made canvas," the work feels very experimental. The structure, which is a mix of natural and artificial elements, may leave different impressions depending on the viewer. The roughness of the work, which was formed intuitively, and its explosive shaping expression show the artist's challenging attitude. The most eye-catching of the works is "Japan," displayed on the wall at the front of the gallery. The branches of a tree, painted red, overlap each other to form a circle. It stands firmly in the middle of a long, white wall. The artist has even turned the white wall into a canvas.
Meanwhile, a sandbox has been created on the floor of the gallery. Next to it is a wooden branch with the caption "Feel free to draw." People who have come to see the exhibition are freely scribbling on the sand as if they are drawing pictures on the beach. It's a very playful addition. The artist must surely be a boyish, playful person. The works are full of vibrant energy. Here we see an example of how his inner humor and sense have been transformed into artistic expression by his hands. (Takahashi Wakana)
