T+review
T+ Gallery is set up like an ordinary luggage storage area, with step ladders, ropes, and a large amount of garbage bags. It doesn't feel out of place, perhaps because this place was actually used as a luggage storage area before it became T+ Gallery.
As the aggressive exhibition name "garbage dump" suggests, there are piles of inflated garbage bags in the gallery. They seem to contain newspapers, but if you look closely, you'll notice that they also contain drawings by the artist. In this exhibition, the artist is throwing away his past works.
What was the artist's purpose in trying to let go of his past? Was it a desire to break away from his past and approach his work with a new attitude? The artist is "throwing away" drawings he has done in the past. However, gradually, it becomes clear that there is more to the artist than that. The drawings in the bag have been arranged with consideration given to their orientation and position so that the images can be seen clearly, and there is a sense of intention. It does not seem as though he is simply throwing them away. In other words, the artist is "showing" to the audience that he is "throwing away" his own drawings. Whether or not the artist intends to "show the drawings in the end," as long as he is doing so in a space such as a gallery, it is impossible to shake the fact that what is there is being "showed."
