Philosopher Jacques Derrida describes in his book Archive Fever the notion of the archive as a fever, an propel obsession led by the fear of dying as an attempt to keep as many items around us alive – saved, collected – in a world which is in constant decay . This obsession, fever, is always problematic – always destructive – because the more items we collect, the more items we have to lose. Thus, we bring ourselves closer to the death we try to run from with every item we try to save. And the closer we come to our fear of dying, the more items we are compelled to save.

Life in boxes is the story of the collector – J – his life, his collection. A man driven by his constant collecting of items, who lives his life rummaging trough boxes, his objects from one place to another. Living his life while trying to save everything, trying to make sense of everything.
