The snow falling on Tsukubane looks purple as the heat haze falls in the evening.
When evening comes, the scent of purple spring dew spreads like wild geese.
Two poems by Setsu Nagatsuka, written while looking out at Mount Tsukuba
I can see Mount Tsukuba from my room on the fifth floor of my workplace. Although it is the lowest of the 877 famous mountains at XNUMXm, it has a beautiful appearance and a purple silhouette that floats above it in the evenings.
Nagatsuka Setsu, who was born in Kossho village (now part of Joso city) in southern Ibaraki Prefecture, must have also looked up to the mountain daily, as two of his poems from 36 (Meiji 1903) entitled "Five Poems Recited While Looking Out at Mount Tsukuba" were composed with the image of twin peaks in mind.
