The poems of Baotuquan by Zhao Mengfu
234 × 53cm
Zhao Mengfu was a calligrapher active from the 13th to 14th centuries, who excelled not only in calligraphy but also in poetry and painting. He aspired to be like Wang Xizhi, known as the master of calligraphy, and made every effort to preserve his tradition, exerting an influence on calligraphers of his time and beyond.
In this work, I have attempted to reproduce the beauty of his dignified, aristocratic handwriting, but there are many shortcomings and I strongly feel that I am lacking in my skills. Although it is a poor work, I would be happy if it inspires you, even if only a little.
