Shakyo is the copying of Buddhist scriptures. The reasons for copying sutras vary from person to person, but they can include memorial services for the deceased, spiritual training, daily reflection and gratitude, etc. After copying sutras, you can feel a sense of satisfaction for what you have accomplished. When I started copying sutras, I cleared my mind of distractions, concentrated all my nerves on the tip of the brush, and was conscious of writing carefully. This was my first attempt at creating a piece in clerical script. It is a crude work, but I hope you will enjoy it.
