Sho-Calligraphy
The Calligraphy Department is the only specialized calligraphy education organization among art universities and departments in the country, and its purpose is to train people who can become independent calligraphers and calligraphers in the future.
The curriculum is broadly divided into lecture subjects for acquiring specialized knowledge and practical subjects for improving practical skills.Lecture subjects include "Introduction to Calligraphy," "History of Japanese Calligraphy," "History of Chinese Calligraphy," and "Appreciation of Calligraphy." Courses include ``Calligraphy Methodology,'' and practical subjects include ``Basics of Calligraphy Practice,'' ``Kanji Production in Calligraphy Practice,'' and ``Kana Production in Calligraphy Practice.''Due to the nature of calligraphy, which draws directly from the famous calligraphies of the past, it is essential to acquire theoretical knowledge even in practical skill, and conversely, the appreciation skills cultivated through practical skill contribute to the progress of theoretical research.
Emphasizing the synergy between theory and practical skills, graduation research requires both production and a thesis. This is a major feature unique to the calligraphy field in art majors.Additionally, taking advantage of the fact that our university is a comprehensive university, students are actively encouraged to take courses offered by other related schools.
