Congratulations to all new students on your admission. This guide was created to help you make effective use of the University of Tsukuba's information system and smoothly complete course registration and other procedures, as well as setting up communication methods. Although it is primarily designed for smartphone users, the content is equally applicable to Mac and Windows computers. Now, let's proceed with the preparations together from steps [1] to [11].
[1] Two types of accounts available at the University of Tsukuba
Students at the University of Tsukuba need an ID and password to use the university's various information systems. These login information can be broadly divided into two types of accounts, so understanding the differences between them will help you avoid confusion when using them.

Main systems that can be used with unified authentication accounts
- utwlan (campus Wi-Fi)
- TWINS (course registration, etc.)
- manaba (report submission, etc.)
Key systems available with your Microsoft 365 account
- Outlook (email)
- Teams (chat/video conferencing)
[3] About the account ID format
Unified authentication account ID format
Unified Authentication Account IDs have two forms
- UTID-13: Below the barcode on the back of your student ID card.13 digit number.
- UTID-NAME:`s` followed by the last 7 digits of your student ID number.(Example: s1234567)
Microsoft 365 account ID format
- It is the last 7 digits of the student ID number following `s` with `@u.tsukuba.ac.jp` added.(Example: s1234567@u.tsukuba.ac.jp)
[4] Set a password for unified authentication
Access the unified authentication settings page
Please access the page below.
New students will receive the ``Unified authentication system initial passwordLog in for the first time using your initial password. If you do not change your initial password within the time limit, it will become invalid, so be sure to change it from [Change password] in the menu.
I forgot or don't know my unified authentication password.
Passwords cannot be reset by individuals.Therefore, please bring your student ID card with you to the Academic Information and Media Center office or library to request a reissue. The process is easy to complete.
[5] How to connect to utwlan (campus Wi-Fi) [Using unified authentication]
Utwlan has two types of access points: "utwlan-x" and "utwlan-w". here,"utwlan-x” Let's connect to Wi-Fi. It must be carried out within the range of the Wi-Fi signal on the university campus. Wi-Fi connection can be done from "Settings" on your smartphone.
Unified authentication (UTID-13) and unified authentication password are required.

[6] Let's log in to TWINS [Use unified authentication]
Unified authentication (UTID-13) to log in. TWINS is used for course registration, etc.
[7] Let's log in to manaba [Use unified authentication]
Unified authentication (UTID-13) to log in. manaba is used for submitting reports, etc.
[8] Set a password for Microsoft 365 [Use unified authentication]
How to log in to the cloud email service authentication setting system (Microsoft 365)
[Note] Access to this configuration system is only possible via the campus network to enhance security. When making settings, please make sure that you are connected to the campus Wi-Fi "utwlan".
Please access the cloud email service authentication setting system (Microsoft 365) provided by Academic Information and Media Center.
The input contents when logging in are as follows.
- account:Unified authentication (UTID-NAME) example: s1234567
- domain:u.tsukuba.ac.jp
- パ ス ワ ワ ド :Unified authentication password
Once you have logged in, please set a new password for Microsoft 365 from "Change Password" in the menu.

I forgot or lost my Microsoft 365 password.
You can reset your password yourself from the cloud email service authentication setting system (Microsoft 365) mentioned above.
[9] Set up Outlook (email) [Use Microsoft 365 account]

Download and set up the Outlook app from the App Store or Google Play Store. The account will be a Microsoft 365 account (e.g. s1234567@u.tsukuba.ac.jp). Unified authentication is not used.

[10] Teams (chat/video conferencing) settings [using Microsoft 365 account]

Download and set up the Teams app from the App Store or Google Play Store. When you start the Teams app, the account you previously set up in Outlook will be displayed as a candidate, so select it. You can access it with your Microsoft 365 account.
[11] Access to Microsoft 365 web version [using Microsoft 365 account]
Microsoft 365 web version can be accessed with a Microsoft 365 account.
Microsoft 365 Web version allows you to use applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint without directly installing them on your computer or smartphone. This is especially useful if you temporarily borrow a family member or friend's device to work on it.
Once you have completed steps [1] to [11], you should be able to use the information system. I sincerely hope that all new students will be able to play an active role in their future studies.
