1899
A special handicraft department was established at the Higher Normal School (later Tokyo Higher Normal School).We supported the development of art education in Japan by training junior high school and high school teachers and general school teachers across the country.

1949
The Department of Art is established in the Faculty of Education, Tokyo University of Education.

1975
The University of Tsukuba School of Fine Arts opens.With the relocation of Tokyo University of Education and the opening of the University of Tsukuba, the School of Arts was established.Since then, we have strived to create an educational environment that responds to changes in the global situation.New fields such as Japanese painting, printmaking, art support, crafts, and information design were established.
