Area selection and determination

The field of your choice will be determined in stages from your second year onwards by taking ``area research'' and ``area special seminars'' offered in each of the 2 areas. Generally, you can take courses in one area at a time.

About Area Research I and II

This course is designed to help you understand what you can specifically learn about the 14 areas of the College of Arts and Sciences, and to provide guidance on course registration. Students take ``Area Research I'' in their second year and ``Area Research II'' in the spring semester of their third year, and are required to complete assignments and reports for each.
For Area Studies I and II, it is basically preferable to choose subjects that are offered in the field you want to advance in, but since the field has not been decided yet, you will have to choose a course after taking I. , II may be selected from other areas.

Regarding Special Area Exercises I, II, and III

This course is for students to receive specific research guidance in each area in preparation for their graduation research. The subject you select in Special Area Seminar I will determine the area in which you will conduct your graduation research. For Special Area Seminar I, Special Area Seminar II and III, and graduation research, you must select subjects from the same area.

It is preferable that the area selected in Area Research I and II is the same as the area selected in Area Special Seminar I, but you may change the area you select. In that case, please consult with the instructor in each area before making any changes.
