Crafts
The crafts field includes glass, ceramics, woodwork and lacquerware.3Consists of fields. The educational goals here are to acquire specialized knowledge, techniques, and modeling skills, as well as to understand the traditions of manufacturing through exercises and practical training related to each material.
Since prehistoric times, humans have ingeniously created tools and everyday utensils that are useful in daily life. This long history and traditional craft has established itself as a unique field.Recognizing the importance of making things by hand, seeking the joy of making things, and the spiritual richness of making use of it in daily life, young people are working to establish workshops and revitalize local industries. On the other hand, it has been standardized at a low price that prioritizes mass production and efficiency."thing"The flood of information spoils our daily lives and at the same time degenerates our sensibilities. In other words, making things by hand using all five senses has become so expedient that the act itself has become fragmented and is becoming more of a hobby. From this situation, we have confirmed how important it is to be a comprehensive human activity, which is the origin of manufacturing: ``What to make, for what purpose, with what materials, and how to make it.'' Education that aims to create a new form is necessary.
Students learn a wide range of modeling basics and exercises and practical training related to materials, explore the cultural background of manufacturing, and develop human resources with creativity and technical ability.Specifically furniture(chair, storage box), daily necessities such as tableware, lighting fixtures, and three-dimensional sculptures while acquiring the techniques and knowledge for each. How can we utilize techniques that have been passed down through generations in modern living spaces? How should new materials be used? This requires knowledge and skills regarding materials, as well as the ability to put them all together. In addition, for those aiming for deeper research, there is a master's program at the graduate school and a degree program in arts at the Faculty of Comprehensive Human Sciences in the field of crafts (glass, ceramics, woodwork, lacquer art).
