Environmental Design
At the University of Tsukuba's environmental design department, we design and research our "environment" from a wide range of perspectives.
Humans are "products" of the environment, and the environment is also a "product" of humans.
The purpose of this course is to clarify the interdependent relationship between humans and the environment, and to learn about the "design" and "planning" of the environment accordingly.
The subject of study is "space" of all scales, such as indoor spaces (interiors), streets, plazas, parks, districts (blocks), cities, rural areas, and Areas of studys (including nature such as mountains, fields, lakes, marshes, rivers, etc.).
By handling these things comprehensively and organically, we aim to create a space where people can live more comfortably.
In other words, ``environmental design'' is a field that comprehensively studies ``environmental creation and space creation = design'' for ``human recovery'' in modern times.
The world around us, or the ``places'' in which we live, are all ``environments,'' even if they differ in scale.
However, up until now, design practices and academic thinking have been established by subdividing them.
For example, interior design, architectural design, urban design, landscape design, etc.
However, in modern society, rapid and major changes are occurring due to the development of science and technology, advanced informationization, changes in industrial structure, and various environmental problems.
If the field of design remains fragmented, we risk losing sight of the overall picture of our complex and diverse "places of life."
The field of ``environmental design'' is necessary and important now.
