Work description:
As the title suggests, this work depicts the comical appearance of an arrogant fox (Japan) who uses the power of the tiger (United States) as a shield in the post-World War II world situation. It is painted with a strong yellow color contrast. The grotesque, gigantic face of the tiger and the hateful fox sitting on its back make a nice contrast.Prior to this, Katsura had created her own oil painting ``A Fox Borrowing the Power of a Tiger'' (1955, Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum of Art), and this work is a series of her own lithographs based on her oil paintings. This is the first one. This lithograph, which cynically depicts the Japanese government embracing the power of the occupation forces and its people complacent with the status quo, is said to have failed to find buyers for a long time due to its offensive subject matter.
