Work description: Eiku began making original prototype photograms in 1930, which he called ``photo drawings.''In a space shielded from light, the artist first places a pattern on photographic paper and shines a flashlight over it to create a ``drawing''.When photographic paper is developed, areas exposed to light appear black and areas in shadow appear white, and by adjusting the way light is applied and the way objects are placed, there are infinite possibilities for expression.Eiku himself explained this as ``a painterly formative spirit in which one concentrates one's mind to form the desired image.''
Eiku often created photo drawings with erotic themes as their theme, but ``Love'' (2010-JP-IS005) seems to have an awkward feel to it, as if she were peeking into someone else's love affair, perhaps due to the drawing process. letIn contrast to the faces of a man and a woman staring at each other, the black and white images below the neck reveal the truth of intense lust.
