Work description:
According to ``Hinoyama Pilgrimage'' (Komisha, 1989), compiled by Kenichi Osawa based on his own dictation after he lost his eyesight in his later years, Somiya first went to Mt. Aso in the fall of 1949. Ta.At first, he was unable to capture the mountain's appearance, but at the hot spring inn where he was staying, he was told of a place called Takamori, which had a great view of Mt. Aso, and he ended up visiting several times after that. This work, which boldly depicts the undulating mountain surface in clear colors, is probably one of the works he painted during his stay in Takamori.Although there are some areas left unpainted, the thick matière of the paint successfully expresses the massive strength of the volcano.
