Explanation:
Bernard Leach was a British potter and painter. He spent his childhood in Japan, his mother's home country, and studied printmaking after returning to Japan. At the age of 22, he returned to Japan, met the ceramic artist Kenkichi Tomimoto and others, and began making ceramics.Although this piece was created on a potter's wheel, the linear flow of the black iron glaze applied to the candy-colored surface creates a rhythmic pattern that gives the vessel its flavor. The bottom of the box is engraved with a kiln seal that combines the letters S and I, and the back of the lid of the box also has "BL" and "St. Ives 1923" written in ink, indicating that St. It is clear that this piece was made in Ives's kiln.St Ives is a seaside town in the southwest of England. In 1923, Leach built a Japanese-style climbing kiln here and used it as a base for ceramic production.
