Explanation:
Kakiemon is a type of pottery made in Arita in the 17th century. It is painted using warm colors such as red and yellow, and is characterized by a pure white background and a pattern that resembles a painting with lots of blank space. It was distributed all over the world through the Netherlands, and was especially prized in Europe. This work is a typical Kakiemon-style plate, thought to have been produced in the 1670s-80s.After shaping it on the potter's wheel, the surrounding area is shaped like a flower to fit the mold, and the edges are colored deep red.Inside, a dragon entangled in bamboo and a tiger looking up at it are depicted in black outlines and in red, blue, yellow, green, and gold. The ample white space and bright colors bring out the whiteness of the base.Furthermore, a pottery shard similar to this was excavated from what is commonly known as the ``Kakiemon Old Kiln Ruins'' (Shimonan Kawarayama, Minami Kawara District, Arita Town, Saga Prefecture).
