Explanation:
A large plate in the old Kutani Aote style. The plate is thick for a piece of porcelain, and peony branches and flowers are dynamically displayed on the entire surface. The flowers are purple, the leaves are green, and the pique-like pattern in the background is colored with yellow paint on the black outline. The entire surface of the back is painted with green paint, and on top of it is a pattern in the shape of a boiling cloud (cloud pattern) drawn with black lines. It is a typical Ko-Kutani colored plate, thought to have been produced in the 1650s, and has characteristics consistent with pottery shards excavated from the Yamabeda kiln in Arita.
