About Ishii Collection
In the summer of 2005, the University of Tsukuba received over 80 works of art from Mr. Akira Ishii, then Chairman and Representative Director of Library Distribution Center Co., Ltd.The number of artworks he donated, including paintings by modern Japanese artists and early modern ceramics from China, Korea, and Japan, increased to over 2010 in the summer of 200, and continues to this day.
At the University of Tsukuba, we have organized a management group made up of faculty members specializing in art history and museology, which serves as the core of the university's over 600 art collections and utilizes them for education and research.Part of the Ishii Collection is on permanent display at the University of Tsukuba Gallery located in the University Hall on the University of Tsukuba's main campus, and once a year a special exhibition is held at the Art Space within the building. It is published inIn addition, in 1, the Ibaraki Prefectural Ceramic Art Museum and the Musashino City Kichijoji Museum of Art each held an exhibition of approximately 2011 ceramic items and approximately 100 prints, watercolors, and other items. It is also exhibited from time to time in special exhibitions at museums. In 50, ``Sisters Surprised by a Whale'' was loaned and exhibited at Yasuo Kuniyoshi's retrospective exhibition held at the American Museum of Art, affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution.
Art-related research organizations focus on the artists and works included in the Ishii Collection, and hold research meetings with experts from a wide range of fields, including art historians, art creators, and conservators, as well as discussions with other universities. We are also developing collaborative projects with the affiliated museum.The results of a series of educational research projects have been edited and published as "Ishii Collection Research", and have been published by Ei Kyu, Kuniyoshi Yasuo, Fujita Tsuguharu, Migishi Kotaro, Katsura Yuki and Fukushima Hideko, Ikeda Tatsuo, and Tristan Tzara's "Anti-Brain". There are 7 books in total, and it is planned to continue in the future.
In the summer of 2021, an anthology created by a team of 6 authors that updates the essays included in the 17th volume of "Ishii Collection Research" and also adds new manuscripts.“Feast of Beauty”was published by Tsukuba University Press.
