For the fall semester

Yesterday was a laboratory seminar.

We have adjusted the seminar schedule for the fall semester.

At the University of Tsukuba, the curriculum is organized into two semesters: spring and fall semesters.

This fall semester, a seminar will be held focusing on the graduation research of Ms. Ito, a fourth-year student.

At the University of Tsukuba College of Art, Department of Design, students work on both a graduation thesis and a graduation project.

Recently, it seems that more and more architecture universities are focusing on either the graduation thesis or the graduation program, but it is still important to tackle both theory (research) and practice (design) as a culmination. think. It's hard though.

Ms. Ito is currently pursuing her graduation thesis and graduation program in the Sukomo village on Kakeroma Island in Kagoshima Prefecture.

Mr. Ito is currently researching the traditional hedge landscape of Sukomo Village.

Orange Hut Survey 2018 Summer Part XNUMX

This is a postscript about the orange hut investigation.

Last time we introduced the Sanwa mandarin orange hut, but the graystone mandarin orange hut is also attractive.

Some are equipped with overhanging roofs and cool tubes for ventilation, and the thermal environment design method is also noteworthy.

Do you see the cool tube exhaust port (with the lid closed) on the floor?

In Usuki City, next door to Tsukumi, there was also a Sanwa building made of neatly arranged round stones.

Tsukumi is also famous for tuna, and for lunch we indulged in tuna at Mr. Kamo's restaurant, Hamachaya.

West weekend

Last weekend I went to Nagoya and Osaka.

On Saturday, I attended the ``Joint Interim Graduation Thesis Presentation by Daido University's Watanabe Laboratory, Kyoto Prefectural University's Nagano Laboratory, and Meijo University's Ishii Laboratory'' held at Meijo University.

Some students are already conducting research and analysis, while others are planning to conduct experiments.

Professor Watanabe, Professor Nagano, and Professor Ishii are all from the Horikoshi Laboratory at Nagoya Institute of Technology and are similar in age to me, so the activities of each laboratory are stimulating.

Professor Horikoshi also attended the presentation.Professor Horikoshi is currently the president of Aichi Sangyo University.

On Sunday, there was a board meeting of the Society for Human and Living Environment Studies in Osaka.

Orange Hut Survey 2018 Summer Part XNUMX

Tangerine huts dot the sloped mandarin orange fields.

We conducted a survey of mandarin orange huts in Tsukumi City, Oita Prefecture.

We were guided by Associate Professor Tadanobu Hara, who has a track record of projects in Tsukumi City, and Keisuke Kamo, who is familiar with mandarin orange huts.

Graduate student Kurihara-kun (left) listens to Kamo-san (right)'s explanation.

Some huts are made of wood, earthen walls, and plastered, as can be seen in other Areas of studys, but there are also huts made of masonry called Sanwa, which are hardened with Sanwa clay, and huts made of gray stone masonry. The hut is charming.
