Arts Research Ethics Committee
Based on the University of Tsukuba's rules regarding the ethics of research involving human subjects, the Department of Arts has established an Arts Research Ethics Committee to deliberate on matters related to research involving human subjects conducted within the department. Research directors and research collaborators who conduct research involving humans (questionnaire surveys, experimental surveys, etc.) are required to attend the Arts Research Ethics Training Session (valid for the fiscal year in which the course falls and the following fiscal year). . The committee meets once a month and deliberates on the application form at the bottom of this page (as a general rule, on the second Wednesday).
Please refer to the points listed in the application form and submit it well in advance.If submitted by the 16th of each month, it will be discussed at the next month's committee meeting.

Notice and request regarding revision of the Personal Information Protection Act
The Personal Information Protection Act was revised in 2 and came into full effect in April 4.Along with this, the definition of "anonymization" has become stricter, and the conventional expression "linkable anonymization" can no longer be used.In the revised Personal Information Protection Act, the term "pseudonymization" is used as the equivalent of the conventional "linkable anonymization," and information that has been "pseudonymized" is called "pseudonymized information."Please use appropriate terminology according to the research plan when applying for future research ethics review.If you have any questions, please contact the Arts Research Ethics Committee.
Arts Research Ethics Training Session (2025)
This year's research ethics training session will be held online (manaba). After watching the three videos, if you pass the confirmation test, you will be considered to have completed the course. Certificates of attendance will be issued to those who have completed the course at the end of May, July, and November. If you do not know how to take the course, please contact the Research Ethics Committee.

*The Art Research Ethics Committee Operating Procedures Manual (2nd edition) defines "research subjects" and "research collaborators" as follows:
Research subjects: Those who fall under any of the following categories
① Person conducting research
② The person who is asked to carry out the research
3) Those who provide blood, tissues, cells, body fluids, excrement, and any other body parts (including those related to deceased individuals) to be used in research, such as DNA extracted from these.
④ Persons providing medical information (including information relating to deceased persons)
Research collaborators: people who cooperate with the research other than the research subjects
Example: Researchers from other institutions conducting collaborative research
In the research ethics review application form, "subjects" in experiments, surveys, etc. should be described as "research subjects."
