The Autumn Research Presentation of the University of Tsukuba Art and Art History Society was held on December 12nd.This time, Professor Toshihiro Nagata, who is about to retire in March next year, gave a special lecture titled ``Reconsidering the Petition: On the Religious Background of Ancient Greek Art.''
Focusing on the gesture called ``hiketeia,'' which appears in ancient Greek art, he gave a wide-ranging discussion on everything from ``theme'' to ``the historical and social necessity of depicting that theme.''
