About this movie: https://le-mani.com/
Aldo Grassini and his wife Daniela Bottegoni are visually impaired and live in Ancona, Marche, Italy. They love art and have traveled to over 80 countries, encountering the world by touching the things that each culture has created, as well as nature and living things. However, no matter which country they visited, they found it difficult to appreciate artworks in museums. This is because museums, which collect, preserve, and display artworks to be preserved for future generations, are "visually dominant" activities that place emphasis on viewing artworks through glass cases and fences. So the couple decided to create a museum where both sighted and blind people could touch and appreciate artworks, and took action themselves, founding the "Omero Tactile Museum." The museum opened in 1993 with support from the Marche Areas of study, and in 1999 it was approved by the Italian Parliament as a national museum, open to everyone, from children to adults, and those with and without visual impairments. The people who work there, the visitors, and the people involved quietly speak to us about what a museum is.
The director, who has been involved in museum management in Japan for many years, was moved by the existence of the Omero Tactile Museum and its activities, and picked up his camera out of a desire to share this fragment of the world with many people. With the theme of "The world you can touch with your hands," he traveled to Italy during the COVID-19 pandemic, when it is difficult to touch anything, and what did he see?
