I went to an off-campus seminar on arts support studies.
On September 29th and November 23rd, students enrolled in the "Off-Campus Seminar A-1~3 in Arts Support Studies" and "Off-Campus Seminar A-1~3 (Art Support Studies)" courses visited the ARCUS Studio in Moriya Manabi-no-Sato, Moriya City.
During our September visit, we visited Arcus Studios and toured the studios of two resident artists, Laura Cooper and Fuyuka Shindo, who were currently creating their works in residence at the studio.
We spoke to him about his creative process, how he plans to spend his time in Moriya, and more, in preparation for his residency.
The second visit in November was an open studio where the results of the work produced during the 90-day stay were presented.
In addition to the two resident artists this year, millonaliu (Klodiana Millona & Yuan Chun Liu), who participated in the 2020-2021 ARCUS Project, also came to Japan to present the results of their work.
After listening to a lecture by ARCUS Project Director Keisuke Ozawa, the students each decided on one topic they would like to research while they were there.
In line with this theme, we spoke to a variety of people, including artists, the ARCUS Project director and coordinators, the venue reception staff, and customers who visited the open studio.
Every year, in the off-campus arts support studies field trip, we investigate art sites that can only be found in these off-campus, "field" locations.
I look forward to receiving the students' reports.
Finally, we would like to thank all the artists, those involved with the ARCUS Project, and the visitors who kindly agreed to be interviewed by our students.
