Introduction: Fundamental Research for Art Writing Education Aimed at Art-Based Humanity

Toshio Naoe, Professor of Art and Design, University of Tsukuba

In this study group, we will introduce an overview of new research topics on art writing education, and as the first interim report, we will provide the following two topics from the perspectives of linguistics and classroom practice.

Topic 1: Linguistic analysis of art writing by high school students

Hiroko Sawada, Associate Professor, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Tsukuba
What is "good art writing"?

The High School Student Art Writer Award, which has been held since 2005, has accumulated a large amount of data on essays written by high school students. This time, we will explore the linguistic characteristics of the 7 essays submitted to the seventh contest by comparing the winning and non-winning works using morphological analysis.

Topic 2: Art × Language: Interdisciplinary learning of art and language

Shunsuke Komatsu and Ayano Hata, Instructors at the University of Tsukuba Senior High School

This is a practical report on art writing education that combines art and Japanese language.

This initiative, titled "Art x Language," focused on the relationship between art and language activities, and considered the senses and thoughts to work in tandem when creating or appreciating art. By having students describe the appreciation process on worksheets as they went along, the aim was for them to become aware of metacognition (languageization) and thereby enrich their future art creation and appreciation.
