The 3rd High School Student Art Writer Awards

We are looking for high school students who love art to submit "Art Essays" based on their own experiences. You can recall an experience about art that moved you in the past, or if you feel like you don't have anything to write about, why not go out and experience something now? Please write about what you felt and thought at that time. We are looking for submissions in the following three categories.

・Production experience: Write about your own experience of creating a work
・Artwork research: writing about a work created by an artist
・Arts Support: Writing about the interaction between art and people

Please choose the category you would like to write about from the list below, find a topic of your own and write about it. Please feel free to decide what you consider to be "art" by referring to the contents of your junior high and high school art textbooks.

• Task

Write an essay that conveys your thoughts based on your experience with art.

• 賞

The winners of the Grand Prize (3 winners), Excellence Prize (20 winners), and School Prize will be presented with a certificate and a prize.

• Format

Within 2000 characters in Japanese. Please enter the file (Word) downloaded from the Art Writer Award website on your computer. If you wish to include illustrations, please paste them directly as JPEG images, etc. Please be sure to include the names of any references or documents you used when writing.

• How to submit

Please submit your application by attaching it to an email along with the application form (which can be downloaded from the Art Writer Award website).

• Application deadline

Applications must arrive by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009 (deadline extended from the 19th to the 26th)

*Detailed application guidelines, manuscript and application forms (Word files), a guidebook with writing tips, and other materials can be downloaded from the website. Please be sure to refer to them when applying.
