Art Environment Support

The Arts Support Area was established with the aim of nurturing "social contributors through the arts" who will work to create an environment, provide support, and apply the power of art to enrich human sensibilities and enrich society.

Within the faculty, the course was launched in 2003 as the "Special Curriculum for Arts Support Studies, Major in Arts Studies", in 2008 it became the "Arts Support Course, Major in Arts Studies", and in 2019 it became the "Arts Support Area".
The Master's Program was launched in 2007 as the "Arts Support Area."

Its origins lie in the research areas of "art education" and "art theory" that were established in the Doctoral Program in Art Studies in 1976, and it has produced many researchers in these fields.
As an extension of this, arts support expands the research field and can be rephrased as an area of learning how to "connect art and society."
The fields in which they work are diverse, including museums and galleries as well as city centers and hospitals, and the support methods are varied and include exhibitions, education, projects, and workshops.

There are countless ways to support the arts. Based on research into arts education, we specialize in the theory and methods of arts support activities.
Students will acquire a broad foundation in art and design through common subjects across the school, as well as specialist subjects such as "Introduction to Arts Support Studies" in the first year, "Art Support Studies" in the second and third years, and off-campus seminars where they will learn about social activities related to art. Afterwards, students will work on a graduation thesis based on their own research topic.
