Currently, 3 routes are ongoing in the hope to cover all 47 prefectures. Through the comments and messages about the movie, we would like to see more links and connections develop among the people. Information Communication Team, Hiroshima Research

The Information Communication Team, which is working to spread the movie, “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” to as many people as possible, went to Hiroshima on Aug. 21 and 22 to tour the area and attend a meeting in preparation for the showing in Hiroshima-city. The showing in Hiroshima is an ongoing project to co-host the screening with “OPERATION Tsunagari”, a student volunteer group at the University of Hiroshima for reconstruction support. The meeting was to get acquainted and to introduce each other’s activities and to exchange ideas about the theme of the screening. The manga artist, Daisuke Nishijima, who lives in Hiroshima, has also agreed to cooperate with the showing. Under a common theme, a talk session with Nishijima, Operation Tsunagari and the co-directors of “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” to talk about the earthquake disaster from each one’s point of view is being planned for after the screening. After the meeting, we toured the city of Hiroshima, visited the Atomic Bomb Dome and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. By touching on the issue of damages caused by the radiation from the atomic bomb, I felt that there was a need to once again discuss and share with the members the significance of showing “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” in Hiroshima. Observation of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station from the Ocean.

On Apr. 8, members of the CR inspected the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station from the ocean. We set sail from Hisanohama port in Iwaki-city, Fukushima prefecture on a fishing boat for about an hour and went as far as within 1 km from the nuclear power station. Contrary to our expectations, the dosimeter, which we took with us, read 0.07μSv/h, a low number, at a point where we were closest to the nuclear station. Juxtaposed to a steep cliff, the Daiichi Nuclear Power Station tells of the enormity of the damage by the tsunami. The observation tour was made possible by the cooperation of the captain of the boat Choeimaru, Mr. Hirokazu Ishii, who also appeared in the movie, “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)”. (Iida)

”Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” screening at MOVIX Tsukuba

The screening of “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” was held at MOVIX Tsukuba.
People not only from Tsukuba-city and the periphery, but people from the Kansai area, Iwaki natives, people who had evacuated and are now living in Tsukuba, and from many other areas also came. Thank you very much to everyone who came despite it being an evening showing. Before the screening, Governor Ichihara of Tsukuba-city took time out from his busy schedule to come and deliver a speech.
Many valuable remarks were made in the questionnaire at the screening: for example, “It was encouraging to see the so-called ‘victims’ with positive attitudes of the reality and of the future, but on the other hand, it was apparent that perhaps those that assume cheerfulness and a sunny outlook are the ones who are masking their sorrow and pain.” “I was reminded of the fact that even though 3 years have passed, some people are unable to return.” “Many words struck me.” “A deeper cut into the nuclear power plant accident, which was man-caused, would have been better.” “ A flat movie in both good and bad ways.” “I realized the importance of talking about it and putting it on record.”
Every time a screening is held, we are blessed with many words requesting for a sequel and with offers of independent community screenings. This showing was the last of the premier screening, however, we are currently working on showing it at theaters and getting organized so that more people will be able to see the movie. Please keep your eyes on our website as details of future showings will be posted. We hope that the movie would serve as an opportunity to remember the events relating to the earthquake and disaster stricken areas.
We would like to extend our thanks to the staff at MOVIX Tsukuba, Tsukuba City Hall, University staff and many others for their cooperation. Thank you very much. We humbly ask that you continue to give your support to the movie, “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)”. (Hashimoto)

”Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” screening at Shibuya UPLINK

On Sunday, March 2, the screening of “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” was held at Shibuya UPLINK.  The shows were both full.  About 140 people came to see the movie.

The audience at the Tokyo venue was different from that of other screenings and it was an opportunity for a more objective viewing by the general public.  At the talk show after the screening, there were a lot of comments from the viewers.  We were very grateful to hear words such as, “Hope for the young generation”, “The strong ties with the people of Iwaki could be felt”, “This is the sort of film I wanted to see”, and so on.  Many questions came from college students of the same generation as the staff, and we realized that people of different generations are interested in our work and how so many people are continuing to work for the disaster stricken area.

Hikari Fujishiro and Shinko Shimomura, who both appeared in the movie, were invited to take part in the talk show, and Kakuhisa Ono and Sayaka Yoshida, who came to the screening, also remarked on the movie.  We would like to express our gratitude for everyone’s encouraging comments, and would like to continue showing the movie in the hope that it would be of some help towards spreading the reality of Fukushima and Iwaki.
We would like to extend our thanks to the people who came to see the movie and to the UPLINK staff.  (Hashimoto)

”Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” screening at Tsukuba University

On Feb. 21, the screening of “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” was held at Tsukuba University. This time, 260 people came to see the movie. A wide range of people including people who have evacuated and are now living in Tsukuba, people who are originally from Fukushima, people outside of Ibaraki prefecture, the elderly, students, instructors and many others. Thank you all very much for coming.

Once again, a talk show after the screening was carried out, and each student conveyed his/her thoughts about being involved in the making of the movie. The audience in response gave them warm applauses, which indicated that they were listening closely to the students’ words. One of the guests who appeared in the movie made a valuable comment; “My daughter saw this movie and said that she will do something that even a high school student can do.” The movie does not depict everything about Iwaki or the disaster stricken area, but it is a record of what every single student saw and felt in Iwaki at the time.

In the days ahead, the movie will be shown in various parts of the country, so if you have not seen it yet, please be sure to come to the next one. (N.B. Since the screening at Tokyo UPLINK has reached full capacity for both the 16:00 and 19:00 shows, reservations are now closed. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the door and cancelled tickets might be available.) (Hashimoto)
