Information Communication Team held screening of “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” in Hiroshima.

On Feb. 1 (Sun), the screening and talk event of “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” were held at the Hiroshima City Plaza for Town Development through Citizen Exchange. The screening event was co-hosted with “OPERATION Tsunagari”, a student volunteer group at the University of Hiroshima.
The manga artist, Daisuke Nishijima, was invited and after the screening a talk session under the theme “New ties and encounters after the catastrophic earthquake” was held. Nishijima deals with the earthquake and nuclear power station accident through his medium, the Tsunagari members are involved in support activities as volunteers, and the student directors created the movie, “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)”, which is trying to spread the voices of Fukushima. All 3 in their own ways spoke about the encounters and ties that developed through their respective activities. In the questions from the floor and questionnaires after the screening, inquiries about what sort of support could be offered from Hiroshima to the Tohoku region, and the necessity to keep talking about the disaster through documentaries and fiction so that the disaster won’t fall into oblivion were pointed out. Four years have passed since the disastrous earthquake, and while it was an opportunity to reconfirm the significance of spreading “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)”, it also raised the issue of coming up with more ways of channeling it. “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” shown at German-Japanese Youth Leaders Exchange Meeting

On Jan. 26, “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” was shown at the German students community in University of Tsukuba, “Baumkuchener Verein”. A total of about 30 Japanese and German students took part. The student directors, Okazaki and Sasaki, were the presenters, and after the screening, a discussion was held involving the entire group. The student directors raised the questions about the harmful rumors due to the nuclear power station accident and about the fading of the memory, within Japan, of the devastating earthquake. Comments from the crowd pointed to the importance to reexamine Japan from a global standpoint and suggested that there should be more effort to show the movie abroad.
On Feb. 20, a screening intended for students and citizens will be held at the University of Bonn in Germany. Two of our student directors will fly over for the event and we expect a lively discussion on the day. We would like to thank the members of “Baumkuchener Verein” and all those who took part. (Iida)

“Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” shown at the University of Tokushima

On Nov. 1st and 2nd, “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” was shown at a symposium called “Fukushima-Tokushima, Let’s Shine Together Project”, held at the University of Tokushima. It was a project by Kakuhisa Ono, who appeared in “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)”. At the talk event after the showing, the production staff and student directors came on stage, as well as the guests, Shinko Shimomura, who also appeared in the film, and Yoshio Satomi, who conducts study tours of the districts near the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and of the disaster-stricken areas. After the talk event, an opportunity to speak with the participants in the World Café style was organized, and a discussion was carried out under the theme of “Fukushima now”, covering the issues that are relevant now and how to give support to these issues and the ways to keep the tragedy of the earthquake from fading into oblivion. The proactive approach of the participants, who each spoke from their own points of view, once again confirmed me of the importance of the dialog after the film showing. I would like to thank Mr. Ono and all those involved.
