Plastic Art and Mixed Media

Introduction

The Plastic Arts and Mixed Media field aims to cultivate insight leading to an ability to relate to the present time, that is to say, to cultivate people who can look at society through art, and, of course, to foster artists. Thus, 20th century art in particular will be taken up as a theme and students will study art and the relationship between art and society through theory and practical classes.

The educational program of the Plastic Arts and Mixed Media field is composed of three main subjects, as follows:

1) This course is primarily aimed at creating plastic art works as its basic point of entry. There are very many materials. These new materials can create statements which are possible only in these modern times. Existing materials will also make new expressions possible, which have never before been seen, with new concepts and techniques.

2) The present era is sometimes called “The Audio-Visual Age,” and opportunities to see works of art through media such as photography, printing, video(television), computer graphics and www, have greatly increased. Works of art using audio-visual devices have also increased in number. It is important to explore the possibilities of these arts.

3) Students learn that the meanings and expressions of artworks vary according to their installation and display. In a broad sense, the point of view that a work of plastic art is a kind of installation in an environment will be possible, and students study how this aspect will evolve in the future.

Graduates have gone on to become artists, teachers and museum curators, and also are actively engaged in display, publicity and planning, industrial design, and making video films for businesses. The school also offers a Master’s Program for further education.
