Information Design

Introduction

Information Design is a new field of design, which makes all man-made products and graphics more enjoyable and usable. In the 21st century, product design of the information age is required not only to possess functional usability, but also to have a visual design which is fun and easy to use. Not only by logic, but also by intuitive sensibility, this will realize design by information at an advanced level.

Today, the importance of information design such as design for young and old, web design on the network, design of IT instruments such as digital cameras and mobile phones, design of video games, digital contents, instrument service upon condition, and respect for eco-friendly design, is increasing. In order to resolve these issues, the University of Tsukuba has structured, thanks to its environmental advance, a new type of design education program in cooperation with the special fields of product, information, graphics, architecture and the environment. Information Design encourages students to:

1) Study information design that creates a design of a system that transmits information, responds to human sensitivities, represents graphics, and controls functions. Design graphics and products for various information.

2) Analyze and observe human behavior for smooth information transmission between human beings, products, and graphics. Study methods to describe the information flow of human behavior.

3) Investigate the structure of products and graphics. Design a program that controls how to exchange information between human beings and a system.

4) Design in detail such as image, color, sound, etc, outline product design, and evaluation.

5) Because a simulation changes with movement, make a movable prototype, design harmonizing various information media technology by shifting between analog and digital.
